Music Therapy

Music as Therapy

HimupNorth has kindly tagged me in Mammy Woo's Music Therapy meme.

Picking three beautiful songs that move me in some way should be pretty easy right? :-S The hardest part is narrowing it down to three.

I suppose I've gone with the goosebump factor, songs that can swing my emotions for one reason or another.

1)'One Day Like This' Elbow with the BBC Concert Orchestra

This is one of those rare songs that uplifts me and makes me weep like a baby at the same time. There are a few songs that my son sings to me but this is the one that gets me EVERY time. Such a beautiful song.

2)'When You Were Sweet Sixteen' - The Furey Brothers & Davey Arthur

Ahhh first love. This makes me melt into a puddle. There's just something so simple and pure about it. It takes me back to a simpler time and is one of those songs that I wish someone would sing to me*.

When first I saw the love light in your eyes,
I thought this world held nought but joy for me
And even though we drifted far apart
I never dream but what I dream of thee

I love you as I never loved before
Since first I saw you on the village green
Come to me or my dream of love is o're.
I love you as I loved you,
When you were sweet
When you were sweet sixteen

3)'Last Night I Nearly Died' - Duke Special

I love Duke Special and had trouble picking between this song and 'Freewheel' (both are in the video above). Both inspire me and remind me not to get stuck in situations where I'm not happy. They move me in a 'kick up the bum' sort of way. I love the lyrics in both. 'Last night I nearly died' edged in there though as despite it sounding upbeat, there is such a sadness to it. It can make me cry but light a fire in my belly at the same time.

  2. Thanks for tagging me :) The beauty of this meme is that you could do it everyday, pick different songs and never exhaust the list to pick from

  3. Really hard to narrow it down to less than about fifty, so a random three from those fifty: 'Polish Poem' from Inland Empire (sung by Chrysta Bell), 'Echoes' by Pink Floyd and 'I Hear A Symphony' by The Supremes. There. Ask me again next week and it'll be completely different. Thanks for tagging me.

  4. Aww I love The Supremes. I've not heard 'Polish Poem' before but have been over to youtube and find it very haunting. Thanks for playing :)

  5. The first song I have chosen is Last Goodbye by Jeff Buckley. It breaks my heart, the loss of love and the loss of Buckley himself. The second song is my Everything is going to be alright song, You Get What You Give by New Radicals. It always finds me when disaster strikes. It might be on the radio or from a neighbours stereo but it finds me. My third choice is the song I want to dance to with the man I want to marry. Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys.

  7. Aww I love the fact that the song 'finds you'. I seem to have wiped the Jeff Buckley song from my mind for a few years so thanks for reminding me of it. I love the Waterboys too although they remind me of an ex now. Thanks for playing x
